Contents

The lecture series will give an introduction in the physics of stars, their evolution and observation. In this, a variety of topics in modern physics will be touched, reaching from classical astro physics (stellar structure, optical observation) to problems in nuclear physics (nucleosynthesis in stars, equation of state of neutron stars) to aspects of astro particle physics (solar neutrinos, gravitational waves). 

Table of Contents (preliminary)

1. The Sun: optical observation, the Standard Solar Model, solar fusion and neutrinos, helioseismology, solar magnetism

2. Stars: observation and classification, star formation, life on the main sequence, late evolution stages

3. Stellar remnants: thermonuclear and core-collapse supernovae, neutron stars, nucleosynthesis

4. Extreme gravity: general relativity, black holes, gravitational waves
