Celebratory Signing of a Partnership Agreement with the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research in Mumbai

On December 12th, 2017, Matthias Neubert, Speaker for the PRISMA Cluster of Excellence and Director of the Mainz Institute of Theoretical Physics (MITP), signed a new partnership agreement with the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Mumbai, India.

“This is a welcome agreement and it lets us strengthen and broaden the existing contact between researchers at both institutions,” said Neubert after signing. On the Indian side, the Dean of Natural Sciences H.M. Antia signed the agreement, accompanied by the Director of the TIFR, Sandip P. Trivedi. The purpose of the agreement is to promote mutually beneficial exchange between young researchers, as part of research trips and summer schools, for example. The MITP already has partnership agreements with research institutes in Brazil and Japan. The signing ceremony was attended by the German Consul General Jürgen Morhard. He gave a short speech in which he, too, underlined the societal importance of lively exchange between top researchers in the two countries.

Neubert was accompanied on the trip by his JGU colleague Joachim Kopp, Professor for Theoretical Particle Physics. The two researchers combined the trip with a multiple-day visit to the “International Conference on Supersymmetry and Unification of Fundamental Interactions” at the TIFR. The Institute is one of Asia’s leading centers for fundamental research in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. It was founded in 1945 and teachers master’s and doctoral students.
